The circular mindset is the 'new normal': products are developed in such a way that used raw materials retain their value as much as possible after the life cycle of the product. Recycling sounds nice, but ultimately it always produces waste and does little to help achieve the agreed climate goals.
Europe wants the Circular Economy to be fully functional by 2050. To achieve this, we must learn to think and act in a different way. Innovation is the key word. Linear production has been the norm for far too long. Raw materials are extracted from Mother Earth and processed into usable goods. When these products are 'used up', they become waste. We still use too many raw materials to make new products. This method of production has no future: raw fossil materials are being heavily depleted and the mountain of waste is becoming an increasing problem.
It is clear that linear production must be converted into circular production. As a result, we will use less and less raw fossil materials. The final cycle of the product is taken into account during the design. Products are assembled modularly so that they can be taken apart after use. The individual parts are reused to create a product that is just as high-quality as the product from which the parts were extracted. This way we need fewer raw materials and at the same time we solve the waste problem.
We, the adults of today, bear the responsibility to transfer this way of thinking to the generation(s) of the future and we cannot start soon enough! Primary Education is the place to link government policy to innovative entrepreneurship, and thus upgrade the circular mindset from being the exception to being the rule.
Everyone knows the story of the Lion King!
The Circle of Life, life is that simple. Plants and animals convert sunlight and all kinds of nutrients into the energy they need to live and reproduce. When plants or animals in nature complete their life cycle and die, they then provide nutrients and energy for other flora and fauna to live and reproduce and the process begins again: the Circle of Life.
According to the climate agreements, Europe must be completely circular by 2050: all products will become circular and therefore all our production processes must be completely redesigned.
Kids & Circulair aims to make this transition transparent through education. This way young people can learn to understand the need for a circular economy. We help them to become aware of 'the new normal' so that they can learn to apply this way of thinking in practice, and their generation can actually realise the circular economy.

Mother Earth is the origin, the beginning and end of all life. Without the Earth there is no life, without life there is no humanity. The Earth supplies all the raw materials that people need. The problem is that we use much more than she can supply and - unfortunately - when we run out, we run out. In 2023, 'earth overshoot day', the day on which we had used up the stock of available raw materials for the entire year, fell on August 2. Naturally, we continued as usual for the rest of the year, which meant that in 2023 we used no less than 1.7 times more raw materials than were available. Simply put, to meet demand we needed 1.7 Earths in 2023. But there is only one!
Kids & Circulair biedt lesprogramma’s Kids & Circulair offers lesson programs for primary, secondary and higher education. And that is absolutely necessary because on the way to 2050, a lot will change in the way we deal with Mother Earth and our products.
